HAVEN Grant Helps Louisiana Veteran Rebuild After Storm
U.S. Army veteran Robert Bray received a $24,737 Housing Assistance for Veterans (HAVEN) grant from the Federal Home Loan Bank of Dallas (FHLB Dallas) to repair significant damage to his home caused by severe storms.
The storm damage left Mr. Bray’s roof and siding in need of replacement. After connecting with First Responders Support Team (FRST), a group that provides confidential mental health care, peer counseling and wellness resources to first responders, he learned about the HAVEN program and its support for veterans.
The grant, awarded through member institution Bonvenu Bank, funded roof and siding replacement.
“Once the repairs began, they finished everything in a day and made the entire experience easy,” said Mr. Bray. “I’m truly thankful for the support FHLB Dallas and Bonvenu Bank provide to veterans.”
Awarded through participating FHLB Dallas member institutions, HAVEN provides grants for home modifications, new construction or down payment assistance to eligible veterans, active-duty service members and reservists with service‑related disabilities. It also supports Gold Star Families.
“Mr. Bray’s experience highlights the difference the HAVEN program can make for veterans facing unexpected challenges,” said Greg Hettrick, senior vice president and director of Community Investment at FHLB Dallas.
