FHLB Dallas Grant Helps Mississippi Homeowner Restore Independence

Thanks to a $9,575 Special Needs Assistance Program (SNAP) grant from the Federal Home Loan Bank of Dallas, Ruby Willis, a longtime Hattiesburg, Mississippi, resident can enjoy her home filled with memories of raising her four children and enjoying time on her front porch.

In recent years, mobility challenges made it difficult for her to safely enter and exit her home, threatening her ability to remain in the home she loves. The grant funded an accessibility ramp, updated electrical panel, new exterior doors and other critical repairs.

These repairs have allowed her to restore her independence and continue living comfortably in her long-time residence.

“I am not helpless anymore,” said Ms. Willis. “I am so thankful to everyone who helped. I can now go outside and sit on my porch.”

SNAP grants are provided through FHLB Dallas member financial institutions, in this case Grand Bank, to support repairs and rehabilitation of owner-occupied housing for eligible special needs individuals such as elderly and disabled homeowners.

Homeowners must be located within the FHLB Dallas District of Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico and Texas.

“Helping residents make critical home repairs is important,” said Greg Hettrick, senior vice president and director of Community Investment at FHLB Dallas. “Support through programs like SNAP helps ensure homeowners can remain in their homes while improving overall quality of life.”
