Some of Austin’s most housing-fragile residents are getting a new place to call home.

The Lancaster, a new construction project in Austin, Texas, will provide permanent housing for survivors of violence and abuse. This innovative project, consisting of 60 high-quality units, will offer comprehensive, voluntary, wrap-around services to support residents in achieving safety and stability.

The project was made possible, in part, with an $850,000 Affordable Housing Program (AHP) grant from the Federal Home Loan Bank of Dallas through member Texas Capital.

AHP funds assist FHLB Dallas members in financing the purchase, construction and rehabilitation of owner-occupied, rental or transitional housing and housing for homeless individuals. The funds must be used to benefit households with incomes at or below 80 percent of the median income for the area.

“This development is so important for families fleeing violence who need a safe place to stay,” said Julia Spann, CEO of SAFE. “We are grateful for the support we’ve received from FHLB Dallas and Texas Capital.” Like all FHLB Dallas grant programs, AHP grants are awarded through members. This grant was awarded through Texas Capital Bank.

In 2023, FHLB Dallas awarded $28.4 million in AHP General Fund grants to 43 affordable housing projects. The grants will help create 2,677 new or rehabilitated housing units.
