Grant Provides Peace of Mind and New Roof for Longtime Waco Homeowner
Thanks to a $12,000 Special Needs Assistance Program (SNAP) from the Federal Home Loan Bank of Dallas (FHLB Dallas), she has a new roof over her head and can continue living in her longtime residence , surrounded by the people and memories she loves.
“I’m so happy to have a new roof,” Ms. Hamilton said. “There’s no way I would’ve been able to afford it without this grant. It’s pretty awesome that people do these kinds of things.”
SNAP provides grants for the repair and rehabilitation of owner-occupied housing of eligible, special-needs individuals such as elderly and disabled homeowners.
The grants are provided through FHLB Dallas member financial institutions participating in the program. In this case, funds were awarded through The First National Bank of McGregor (TFNB).
Ms. Hamilton learned about SNAP through the Waco Habitat of Humanity. TFNB partners with Habitat for Humanity to identify residents who need major repairs.
“We are so pleased to be a part of this program,” said Jason Lavender, executive vice president at TFNB. “So many homeowners have major repairs that they just can’t afford. That’s where SNAP comes in.”
FHLB Dallas set aside $2 million of its 2025 Affordable Housing Program funds for SNAP, and more than $28 million has been awarded to households in FHLB Dallas’ region since SNAP was first offered in 2009.
“It’s rewarding to see this program in action,” said Greg Hettrick, senior vice president and director of Community Investment at FHLB Dallas. “These funds have a direct impact on homeowners’ comfort, safety and sense of well-being.”
