Introducing the Native American Housing Opportunities Fund

The Federal Home Loan Bank of Dallas (Bank) will launch a new pilot program to provide grants to federally recognized tribes and Tribally Designated Housing Entities (TDHEs) to support the housing needs of tribes and tribal organizations. Through the Native American Housing Opportunities (NAHO) Fund, the Bank will make available $1 million in NAHO Fund grants. 

The program provides grants of $50,000 to $150,000 per applicant to help meet the housing needs of tribes and TDHEs. The Bank will review each application to assess how a grant would support the applicant in meeting its housing-related mission or objectives.

Criteria:

  • Apply from June 3 to July 12, 2024. Awards will be announced on or about August 30
  • Available to federally recognized tribes or TDHEs sponsored by one of the Bank’s member institutions
  • Grant funds must be used support housing-related activities for tribal members residing in the Bank’s District — Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico or Texas 
  • Grant recipients must certify that the funds were used for the purpose specified in the application and submit an impact report regarding the effectiveness of the grants in achieving the desired outcomes
Eligible Uses Include:  
  • Down payment/closing cost assistance for home purchases by tribal members 
  • Repairs to owner-occupied homes for tribal members 
  • Rental assistance for tribal members  
  • New construction or rehabilitation of existing housing for tribal members 
  • New program or product development 
  • Enhancements to information technology and systems  
  • Consultant fees (nonemployees, separately invoiced) 
  • Predevelopment costs

Member-sponsored applications must be submitted to naho@fhlb.com by July 12, 2024.
