Meet Tammy Parker
Tammy Parker has worked at FHLB Dallas for four years. As a processing and review analyst, she is responsible for releasing members' wires and federal funds every morning, meaning that financial institutions across FHLB Dallas' five-state District rely on Tammy to do her job and do it well.
Her job requires attention to detail and timely delivery to ensure members have the funds they need to continue to serve their customers.
What Tammy loves most about working at FHLB Dallas is its focus on the members.
"FHLB Dallas is all about serving its members," she said. "We are member-driven and member-centered. We do everything we can to make sure our members are taken care of."
This focus on service flows over into her personal life as well. Work and her four grandchildren keep her busy, but she makes time for service. For Tammy, service is simply a way of life.
For the past five years, she has volunteered with her church at a nursing home, visiting and talking with residents once a month. On holidays, she takes the residents gifts to make sure they feel loved and valued.
After losing her oldest son to cancer three years ago, service became even more important to Tammy as her perspective on life changed.
"I think it's important to be humble and grateful for the life you have and the time you're given," Tammy said. "Life is precious and I want to spend mine doing something worthwhile."
FHLB Dallas encourages this kind of attitude — one of gratitude and giving back. Every month, a different department in the Bank spearheads a volunteer or fundraising initiative for the charity of their choice. Employees also receive an additional flex day each year to give their time and talents to an organization that is meaningful to them. Initiatives like these make Tammy proud to work at FHLB Dallas.
But for her, the Bank is not simply where she works. It's her community.
In the aftermath of her son's passing, Tammy's coworkers became her support and comfort. Tammy meets with a group of women at FHLB Dallas every Wednesday afternoon for prayer and bible study — one aspect that she says makes this a unique place to work.
"The people here truly care about you and who you are," Tammy said. "You can be your true, authentic self, and they'll embrace you for it."
Tammy takes pride in the fact that FHLB Dallas shares her commitment to serving others and doing good.
"FHLB Dallas is a giving Bank," she said. "We do a lot of things here that I haven't seen anywhere else. Everything is people-driven and centered on taking care of others, and that's a special thing to be a part of."
